Community Involvement
Since its founding in 1916, family-owned United Supermarkets has adhered to its founder's philosophy of growing and expanding into markets in order to "build up" communities. Throughout the 28 Texas markets served by United, one would be hard pressed to find a high school scoreboard, a United Way agency, a Little League team, an elementary school classroom, a health or social service agency or a local civic event that has not received support from United Supermarkets at one time or another. One of the greatest privileges we enjoy is to be able to make a positive impact in the communities we serve.
In addition to donations of cash and merchandise, and sponsorships of local civic and charitable events, we're also involved in our communities through store UCrew volunteer teams, as well as our own fundraising events. Our annual Jacky Pierce Charity Golf Classic, has raised almost $2 million for charities since its inception.

UCrew
It takes everyone being involved to make a community great, and with United team members, involvement truly is "from the Heart." UCrew, the company's award-winning community outreach program, organizes volunteer United team members to provide community service in every United neighborhood.
Each store's UCrew team conducts approximately six group service activities each year. These activities can be in support of any local charity or church-affiliated organization. UCrew teams have been called upon for such activities as helping to build Habitat for Humanity houses, feeding the needy, working at charitable fundraising events, cleaning up neighborhoods and highways, and assisting local schools in many different ways.
Why UCrew?
Created by Co-President Matt Bumstead, the program has four major purposes:
- To provide team members with opportunities to get involved in and serve their local communities.
- To increase United Supermarkets' ability to give back to its communities.
- To provide team members with the opportunity to strengthen relationships with co-workers.
- To encourage and model service to the community.
An Award-Winning Effort
Development of the UCrew program made United Supermarkets the first-ever recipient of the 2003 "Community Involvement Award" from Supermarket News, the industry's leading trade publication.

Donation Guidelines
Types of Donations
- Merchandise - Each of United's 48 store locations makes merchandise donations. The Store Director will review the completed Donation Request Form and determine whether or not the request will be approved. Approved requests usually range from $10-$30 in merchandise or gift cards; however, through special arrangements, merchandise donations of higher amounts occasionally may be approved by Store Directors.
- If the request exceeds the amount a single store may approve, or requires special arrangements, the form will be forwarded to the Regional Office or Store Support Center for processing. In any case, the person making the request will be notified whether or not the request has been approved and, if so, where to pick up the merchandise.
- Cash - For all cash donations and sponsorship requests of more than $30, a completed Donation Request Form, with supporting documentation, should be sent to the appropriate Regional Office.
- Sports Team/Goodwill-Program Advertising - If the request is primarily for the purchase of advertising space in a program or other printed material, or sponsorship of a youth league or high school sports team, please complete the Donation Request Form and give it to your Store Director, who will forward it to our Marketing Department for approval and artwork.
- UCrew Volunteers - Requests for volunteer assistance through United's UCrew program may be made at any store location. As is the case with other types of requests for assistance, UCrew requests should be made three weeks before the date of the event, to provide ample time for processing and volunteer coordination.
