Best-Selling Book by United Supermarkets CEO
Now on Sale in Most Major Bookstores,
All United Locations

LUBBOCK, TX - By creating an environment that places people ahead of profit and service ahead of statistics, businesses are primed to win the hearts and wallets of their communities.

So says Dan Sanders, United Supermarkets CEO and author of the book, “Built to Serve: How to Drive the Bottom Line with People-First Practices,” released recently by McGraw-Hill. The book already has made both the USA Today and New York Times’ bestseller lists.

Built to Serve   "Built to Serve" is now available in major book outlets, including Barnes and Noble Booksellers, and in all 46 United and Market Street store locations. All profits from book sales will be donated to United We Care, a nonprofit initiative designed to help team members of United Supermarkets in times of extraordinary need.

In the book, Sanders makes this bold claim: the prevailing business culture is broken and a radical transformation is required - a paradigm shift that reshapes our understanding of the true purpose of work.

Delivering the message that in any organization, its people are most important, Built to Serve calls for a fundamental shift in today's workplace culture. Sanders provides the tools and techniques every organization needs to tap into employee passion. It features a number of United team members and shares stories that will resonate with people who are familiar with the company's belief in treating people right.

"Built to Serve" began as a conversation on a Lubbock golf course in the summer of 2006 and became reality during the winter and spring. In the book, Sanders shares stories from his unique career as an entrepreneur, military pilot during Desert Storm, college athlete and CEO of United.

""Built to Serve" calls for a profound shift in the philosophy and practice of business," said Ken Blanchard, co-author of "The One Minute Manager," who wrote the afterword for Sanders' book. "We can all learn a great deal from Dan's leadership and United's legacy."

The forward for the book was written by Dr. Stephen Covey, author of "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People."
