Graham United Supermarkets
Store Remodel to Resume Soon

LUBBOCK (special) - The long-anticipated remodeling and expansion of the United Supermarkets store in Graham is expected to resume by the end of this month, company officials indicated today.

The project was announced last spring but was delayed due to a lack of qualified construction crews and sharp increases in construction materiel necessary to complete the job.

"This year we saw school bond construction programs increase exponentially. As a result, our original construction plan had to be modified due to the high demand for subcontractors working feverishly to complete school projects over the summer," explained Michael Molina, vice president of facilities design and development for United Supermarkets, LLC.

Construction will resume promptly and is expected to be completed by May 2008.

Store expansion was made possible through the leasing of the space previously occupied by The Acorn Shop furniture store, adjoining United on the east side. The project will result in a 40,000-square-foot store with a modified façade on the exterior and a totally new interior.

New merchandising efforts will elevate the store to United's Specialty Division alongside the company's six Market Street stores and three other "hybrid" United stores. Departments which will see significant expansion are Market, Floral, Bakery and Deli, the latter of which will feature a seating area and Peet's Coffee Shop.
