ExpressCare
United Supermarkets is joining forces with UMC Health System in Lubbock and Family Medicine Centers in Amarillo to offer a new, cutting-edge service to West Texas beginning soon.
"Living Well ExpressCare" will offer primary medical services to guests inside the store at two United locations in Lubbock and one in Amarillo. They are believed to be the first healthcare facilities in a retail setting in West Texas.
The Amarillo facility, at United’s 45th & Bell store, is scheduled to open Saturday, Sept. 1. The Lubbock clinic at 82nd & Boston will open its doors on Friday, Sept. 14, while the 50th & Ave. Q location will open at a later date.
A similar facility also is planned for the new Market Street store currently under construction in Frisco, north of Dallas.
In each location, the clinic will be located next to the pharmacy, allowing patients to have their prescriptions filled immediately. The facility will be open seven days a week, maintaining operating hours similar to those of each store’s pharmacy. It will be staffed by a physician’s assistant and/or nurse practitioner under the supervision of a licensed physician.
There are an estimated 425 clinics in operation in the U.S. today, but only about 20 percent are located in supermarkets. "The need for accessible, affordable, high-quality health care in our country has never been greater, as studies indicate that nearly a third of the U.S. population does not have a family physician," said Dan Sanders, CEO of United Supermarkets, L.L.C.
"Not only do these partnerships provide our store guests with convenient, quality health care, but we believe it also will allow us to focus attention on the wellness and nutrition products and services available in our stores," he added.
