Dallas Regional Chamber Honors United Supermarkets
at 2009 Momentum Awards Reception
Market Street recognized for economic, philanthropic contribution to DFW

FRISCO, Texas (Oct. 23, 2009) –United Supermarkets was one of nine local businesses honored yesterday evening at a special V.I.P. reception hosted by the Dallas Regional Chamber (DRC) at the W Dallas Victory Hotel. The DRC’s annual Momentum Awards program, in its sixth year, recognizes businesses in the Dallas-Fort Worth-area that have experienced job growth and are doing great things in the region.

Regional Vice President Kurt McMillan accepted the award in the Corporate Location category on behalf of the company, which was selected as a winner based on the outstanding contributions of its Market Street banner to the economic growth and artistic advancement of DFW.

“We have worked hard to develop a strong connection to the DFW area since opening our first store in Colleyville in 2003,” McMillan said. “We are extremely honored to be recognized by the DRC this year as one of the businesses which is working for the betterment of our community,” said McMillan.

In addition to Colleyville, the company operates Market Street stores in McKinney, Allen, Frisco, Coppell and Plano. The latter four opened during a 14-month span between January 2008 and April 2009, and the Frisco location is also home to the company’s DFW regional office.

“We are extremely grateful to the thousands of guests who support us by shopping our stores every week - without them, we would not be able to realize our recent growth,” McMillan said. “We are committed to continue growing our presence in the DFW area and are appreciative of the DRC for this recognition.”

The four new Market Street stores created more than 1,500 new jobs in the DFW area, culminating with the opening of the Plano location on April 1. The grand opening of that store featured a promotion which provided the first 100 guests with free milk for an entire year.

In September, Market Street raised almost $20,000 specifically for United Way organizations in the DFW area at its 18th annual Jacky Pierce Charity Classic golf tournament, as well as donated $100,000 to the Arts of Collin County to fund the construction of an arts hall considered to be a great cultural addition to the community.

Market Street is a unique shopping experience that combines the everyday groceries guests need with the specialty items, whole-health/gourmet products and pre-prepared foods they want. Additional information about the store can be found on the Market Street DFW Facebook page as well as the Market Street Web site. Fans also can find Market Street information and special offers through the Market Street DFW Twitter
