New United Supermarkets Private-Label Wines Offer Unconventional Blends, but Uncompromising Quality
LUBBOCK, TX – A cursory glance at the label on either of United Supermarkets’ new privatelabel wines will alert shoppers that these might not be your typical house wines.

With names like “Heartbreaker” and “Wanted!” at the bottom of their “Outlaw Anthem” label, these wines dare to be tasted.

“I think we hit a homerun with these two wines,” said Steve duToit, north and west Texas market manager for Lubbock’s Llano Estacado Winery. “We believe we have a premium product at a value price on our hands.”

Llano Estacado is the largest premium production winery in Texas and United Supermarkets’ newest private-label partner, having developed two unique blends and eyecatching packaging under the leadership of Mark Hyman, president, and Greg Bruni, vice president of winemaking.

This is the first private-label venture for Llano Estacado Winery.

“Both Outlaw Anthem products are great entertainment wines,” duToit said. “They’re unconventional ‘maverick’ blends, crafted with an uncompromising in quality.”

Outlaw Anthem Heartbreaker is a silky-fruit-forward red blend of primarily zinfandel and carignane grapes, while Outlaw Anthem Wanted! is a flavorful white blend of chenin blanc, viognier and sauvignon blanc.

“Heartbreaker is really unique – a few critically acclaimed wines from the Sonoma valley of California combine the strengths of these two rarely blended grapes, but at more than twice the price,” duToit said. “And with the white blend including chenin blanc grapes, people will expect a sweeter wine. But with only 1.5 percent residual sugar, it is surprisingly bright and lively, with just a whisper of sweetness.”

Both products are made primarily from grapes grown in west Texas, primarily near Plains (southwest of Lubbock) and Dell City (near El Paso).

They sell for $9.99 per bottle and are available exclusively at all 10 Market Street stores and select United Supermarkets locations.

“We are thrilled to be able to expand our relationship with Llano Estacado Winery and to be their first private-label partner,” said Roger Scott, category manager for United Supermarkets, LLC. “Both these wines exhibit the very high standards and skill of the Llano winemaking team, and it is our privilege to be chosen as the first retailer for this type of venture.”
