United Supermarkets Ramps Up for Back-to-School Season with
21st Annual "Stuff the Bus" School Supply Drive

ABILENE, Texas – In preparation for back-to-school season, United Supermarkets will kickoff its annual Abilene “Stuff the Bus” School Supply Drive benefitting community partners and children in the West Central Texas region. The event, which will be held in all Abilene United Supermarkets locations, runs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, and a kick-off celebration, presented by KTAB-TV, will be held at noon on Aug. 2 at the United Supermarkets location on 3301 South 14th in Abilene.Top of Page
Throughout the month-long promotion, guests are encouraged to purchase basic school supplies and drop them into “Stuff the Bus” barrels located in each store. Guests may also place monetary donations into Crayola banks located at the registers, where proceeds will be used to purchase school supplies.

“United Supermarkets has committed to this worthwhile event for more than 20 years, helping to ease the burden of back-to-school season on families in need,” said Eddie Owens, director of communications/public relations for United Supermarkets. “This year, we especially want to remind guests to “Stuff the Bus” during the upcoming tax-free weekend, Aug. 19 – 21, and take advantage of this opportunity to support the youth in our community.”
Since 1991, the South Plains Food Bank has helped prepare more than 30,000 children for the first days of school.
United Supermarkets will also be hosting a “Stuff the Bus” promotion in the Abilene stores Aug. 1 through Aug. 21.
As part of its commitment to community involvement, United Supermarkets is also participating in the Box Tops 4 Education campaign, held in all United Supermarkets locations from July 27 through Aug. 23. Shoppers can earn cash for their children’s school by clipping Box Top coupons from hundreds of participating products. The program has helped America’s schools earn more than $400 million since 1996.
