“Best Companies to Work for in Texas” List
Includes United Supermarkets for Third Straight Year
LUBBOCK, TX - For the third year in a row, the 2008 list of “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” includes United Supermarkets, LLC.
United was one of three Lubbock-based companies named to the third annual list, joining City Bank Texas – a repeat honoree from a year ago – and newcomer UMC Health System.
The third annual program was created by the Texas Association of Business (TAB), Texas State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management (TSC-SHRM), and Best Companies Group.
It was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in Texas, benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce and businesses. The list is made up of 75 companies split into three categories: 20 small-sized companies (25-74 employees), 25 medium-sized companies (75-249 employees) and 30 large-sized companies (250 and more employees).
United was named to this year’s list in the large category.
To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
- Be a for-profit, not-for-profit business or government entity;
- Be a publicly or privately held business;
- Have a facility in Texas;
- Have at least 25 employees in Texas;
- Be in business a minimum of 1 year.
Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the Best Companies to Work for in Texas. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking.
Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Texas with assistance from ModernThink LLC, which analyzed the data and used its expertise to determine the final rankings.
The actual rankings will be published in a special advertorial section in the February 2008 issue of TEXAS MONTHLY, and the ranked companies will be recognized at a gala awards luncheon Jan. 25 in Austin.
