National
Influenza
Vaccination Week with $20 Flu Shots
Texans can earn 10-piece, professional-grade cookware with everyday grocery purchases
LUBBOCK, TX (Special) –All 43 locations of United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos United pharmacies will recognize National Influenza Vaccination Week with a $20 flu vaccine special.
The national observance is Dec. 5-11.
“We are reducing the cost of our influenza vaccine during this time in an effort to vaccinate more of our guests and help promote a healthy, flu-free holiday season,” said Tim Purser, business director of pharmacy for United Supermarkets, LLC.
On average, there are 36,000 flu-related deaths in the United States each year, and more than 90 percent of these deaths occur in people 65 years of age and older. Medicare pays for the seasonal flu vaccine and its administration for all beneficiaries with no co-pay or deductible. United pharmacies under all three banners will file Medicare claims on behalf of Medicare Part B-eligible guests.
An annual flu shot is the first – and best – step toward prevention of the flu, Purser noted.
This year’s flu shot includes vaccination for the H1N1 (swine flu) strain which dominated the headlines just one year ago. Guests may visit www.unitedtexas.com/pharmacy/ for the pharmacy location nearest them.
National Influenza Vaccination Week was established to highlight the importance of continuing influenza vaccination, as well as fostering greater use of the flu vaccine during the holiday season and into January and beyond.
This year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is encouraging everyone 6 months of age and older to get vaccinated against the seasonal flu. During National
Influenza Vaccination Week, CDC has designated the following special days:
· Monday, Dec. 6: “Family Vaccination Day”
· Tuesday, Dec. 7: “Chronic Conditions Day”
· Wednesday, Dec. 8: “Employee Health Day”
· Thursday, Dec. 9: “Older Adults Vaccination Day”
· Friday, Dec. 10: “Young Adults Vaccination Day”Now in its 94th year of operation, United Supermarkets, LLC, is a Texas-based, family-owned grocery chain with stores in 30 markets across north and west Texas.
