LUBBOCK, TX – United Supermarkets has made a $50,000 gift to Frank Phillips College in Borger to support the renovation of the college’s science labs. The monies will be used to help purchase equipment and technology for labs used in the college’s vocational nursing, allied health and general science programs, according to Dr. Herbert J. Swender, president of Frank Phillips College.
The gift was presented recently by Paul Evans, regional vice president of United Supermarkets LLC, and Theron Baker, store director of United’s Borger location.
“We are extremely grateful to United Supermarkets for its generous gift in support of our science programs,” Swender said. “We intend to put these dollars to use immediately and have our lab renovations completed by the beginning of our spring term.”
Many of the students impacted by FPC’s science programs are first-generation college students, Swender said. “The programs will directly impact these students by providing them with the means to become certified and employed in nursing, allied health and related science professions,” he said.
In making the presentation, Evans acknowledged United shoppers for making such gifts possible. “Almost one million guests shop our stores each week, and their continued support throughout our 94-year history is what makes it possible for us to give back to our communities,” he said. “We are proud of the outstanding work Frank Phillips College is doing to educate students in the Texas Panhandle.”
