Market Street’s ‘Healthy New You’ Expos Help Guests Take a
Hands-on Approach to a Healthy New Year
LUBBOCK (Jan. 10, 2011) –With the NuVal Nutritional Scoring System now in place in all 50 United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos stores, United is inviting Texans to kick off the new year with NuVal by attending its free, educational “Healthy New You” Expos at any of its 10 Market Street locations in north
and west Texas.
As part of United’s commitment to the total health and wellness of Texas families, the “Healthy New You” Expos will serve as a forum for helping guests choose nutritional foods that work for their diets and lifestyles. Trained Market Street team members will offer complimentary food samples, coupons, recipe cards, preparation tips and nutrition information as well answer questions about the NuVal system at designated
stations throughout store. Additionally, Market Street pharmacists will provide blood pressure and cholesterol screenings at no charge.
Hours for the event are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, and Sunday, Jan. 16.
“We were very excited to announce the extension of the NuVal program to all of our United, Market Street and Amigos stores,” said Tyra M. Carter, PhD, RD, LD and United’s corporate dietitian. “But we’re even more excited to personally introduce it to the families who shop with us and show them how to easily make nutritious foods work for their unique needs and budgets at the ‘Healthy New You’ Expos.”
United Supermarkets became the first grocer in Texas to implement the NuVal system, introducing it in 14 stores last March.
The NuVal scoring system ranks foods on a scale of one to 100 based on a variety of nutrition factors; the higher the NuVal score, the higher the nutrition. Guests wanting to learn more about making the NuVal system work for them can visit the “NuVal Champion” station at their Market Street’s “Healthy New You” Expo to pick up a complimentary copy of Dr. Carter’s recently-published Eat Well Live Well, co-authored by Texas Tech Physicians’ certified diabetes instructor James Fry. Each store will have 1,000 copies to give away.
“There are a lot of myths and misinformation about healthy eating and living well, and through the help of the NuVal system and education, we hope to serve as a trusted source of food facts that families can rely on,” said Dr. Carter.
At the expo, guests can learn about and sample products such as:
- Full Circle Sockeye Salmon and Cod fillets high in vital minerals and Omega 3 fatty acids,
- All-natural, organic, lean and ultra-lean meats,
- Organically- and traditionally-farmed produce,
