United Supermarkets to Assist South Plains Food Bank
with Donation and Mini-“U Can Share” Food Drive
LUBBOCK, TX – United Supermarkets will assist South Plains Food Bank with its critical food shortage with the donation of a truckload of food later today. Approximately 51,000 pounds of food will be delivered to the food bank’s warehouse this afternoon.
The company also will host a mini-“U Can Share” Food Drive at all 10 of its Lubbock County locations through the remainder of this month. Until Aug. 17, shoppers at any United, Market Street or Amigos location in Lubbock and Slaton can make cash donation, and United will match the first $10,000 from guests.
Food donations will be accepted through Aug. 31 and can be placed in specially marked barrels near the entrance of every store. United also will match the first 10,000 pounds of food donations.
Among the items on the United truck are canned goods – including soup, fruits, vegetables and fruit juice – children’s fruit drinks, peanut butter, oatmeal, cereal and snack mix.
“South Plains Food Bank plays an incredibly vital role when it comes to meeting the needs of our community,” said Robert Taylor, CEO of United Supermarkets, LLC. “Similarly, we at United believe in community and in meeting immediate needs with an immediate response. We feel privileged to be able to do so and to provide an opportunity for our guests to respond to this need.”
Guests may also donate to the food bank’s “Stuff The Bus” school supply drive at any of the same United locations through the end of August.
