PLAINVIEW (Special) - Store improvements and enhancements of United
Supermarkets' Olton Road location in Plainview are virtually complete, according to
Chris James, Traditional Division vice president.
"We are extremely pleased with the update," James said. "We have been in that
location ever since the shopping center opened (in the mid-1980s), so the store was
definitely overdue."
Most noticeable improvements include a total store reset to accommodate the new
Beer-Wine department, and all new frozen food cases, allowing for an expanded selection
of frozen products.
Other departments receiving enhancements include a spacious new produce
department, as well as expanded selections in the meat market, dairy and deli. "We have
expanded our deli offerings, including packaged luncheon meats and cheeses," he added.
The final piece of the project inside was to replace the blue-and-white
checkerboard floor with earth-toned tile. New exterior signage is still to come.
"Along with the opening of our Amigos United store last fall, this effort shows
our commitment to the Plainview community," James said. "We want to provide our
guests there the very best facility possible."
United has been a part of the Plainview community since the early 1960s, and the
city has been a proving ground for several company initiatives. It opened its first
Hispanic-format store - Supermercado United - in Plainview in 2000, then refined the
format with the launch of Amigos United in October 2007 at the same location.
