United Supermarkets and Guests Donate
an Additional $28,614 and 8,338 Pounds
to South Plains Food Bank
LUBBOCK, TX – United Supermarkets and its guests donated an additional $28,614 and 8,338 pounds of food to South Plains Food Bank during the company’s recent mini-food drive at its 10 stores in Lubbock County.
Following the public announcement in early August that the food bank was facing a critical shortage of food, United responded by sending a truckload of approximately 51,000 pounds of food to the local agency, as well as approximately 34,000 pounds to High Plains Food Bank in Amarillo.
The company then hosted a mini-food drive at its Lubbock and Slaton stores, giving guests the opportunity to make either monetary or food donations through the remainder of August.
Guests responded with $18,614 in cash donations and 4,169 pounds of food. United matched the first $10,000 in cash donations and doubled the food donation amount. United will join the food bank and KCBD-TV NewsChannel 11 in hosting the annual U Can Share Food Drive Dec. 6-11 at United’s 82nd and Frankford location.
